What is the Primary CSS file?

Last updated: May 23, 2017

The primary CSS file is a global stylesheet that may appear in your HubSpot account within the Design Manager.

Please note: new HubSpot accounts will not include a primary CSS file. Primary CSS files that have not been customized have also been removed from older accounts. Learn more about using stylesheets in HubSpot here.

If a primary CSS file does exist in your HubSpot account, it is automatically applied to all of your HubSpot templates, unless it has otherwise been removed from the template's head settings (Actions > Edit Head). The purpose of the primary CSS file is to provide a centralized location for managing style declarations that are used across multiple content types and domains.

To locate your website's Primary CSS file:

  • Navigate in HubSpot Marketing to Content > Design Manager > Primary CSS File.
  • Here, you can make your desired edits. When you press Publish changes, your CSS is compiled into a minified CSS file called hs_default_custom_style.min.css that is attached to all of your pages.
