How do I add contacts to my static list?

You can add contacts into an existing static list via a contact import, directly from the static list itself, on the individual contact record, or using a workflow (Marketing Hub Professional and Enterprise only).

Import contacts into a static list from the import tool

  • In your HubSpot account, navigate to Contacts > Contacts.
  • Click Import in the upper-right hand corner of the contacts dashboard.
  • Click Start an import at the upper right.
  • On the What would you like to import? screen, select A CSV file, then select Contacts.
  • Choose the .csv file you wish to import by clicking Select a file or by dragging the file into the window.
  • Once the file is selected, click Upload at the bottom right.

  • On the Import details page, enter a name for your import (this will be the name of the static list that's automatically created of your imported contacts).

Please note: the Lifecycle Stage property is not designed to go backwards; for example, a contact who is already marked as a Customer cannot be set back to a Lead through an import. 

  • Click Advanced options
  • Select your existing static list from the Also add contacts to this list dropdown.

  • The contacts on your imported list will be added to the static list you select. They will also be added to a new static list with the same name as the name of your import.

Import contacts directly into the static list

  • In your HubSpot Marketing Hub Basic, Professional, or Enterprise account, navigate to Contacts > Lists.
  • Click the name of the list to which you'd like to import your contacts.
  • Click the Actions dropdown menu at the upper right and select Import contacts into this list.

  • The contacts on your imported list will be added to the static list you select. They will also be added to a new static list with the same name as the name of your import.

Add a single contact to a static list on the contact record

  • In your HubSpot account, navigate to Contacts > Contacts.
  • Click the name of the contact you'd like to add to a static list.
  • Scroll down to the List memberships card on the left, then click Manage list memberships.

  • Click the Search for a static list dropdown and select the static list to which you'd like to add the contact, then click Add [contact name] to this list.

Add an existing list to a static list using a workflow (Marketing Hub Professional and Enterprise only)

  • In your HubSpot account, navigate to Automation > Workflows.
  • Click Create workflow at the upper right of the dashboard.
  • Select Start from scratch, then click Create workflow at the upper right.
  • Click Set enrollment triggers. In the pane that slides in on the right, select List membership.
  • Choose the list that you'd like to add to your static list from the Contact is a member of list dropdown menu and click Done.
  • Select the checkbox next to Enroll contacts who already meet this criteria at the bottom and click Save.

  • Click the plus (+) icon to add an action.
  • Select Add to a static list
  • Select the Static list to which you'd like to add your list, then click Save.

  • Click Review at the upper right, then click Activate to turn the workflow on.
