When utilizing the Prospects tool in HubSpot, you may see some unexpected or conflicting data. It's important to keep in mind when reviewing Prospects data that determining the company a visit originated from is not an exact science. HubSpot's Prospects tool sources data from various public sources around the web.
Occasionally, users have found that a contact appears under the wrong company in the Prospects tool. There are a few possible reasons for this:
- Over 60% of internet traffic comes from mobile devices (and this number continues to increase). It is possible for a contact to connect from a different network and show up under the "wrong" company prospect.
- Multiple small companies that share the same Internet Service Provider (ISP) may appear as the same company.
- A visit isn’t shown in Prospects because the prospect is an ISP. Visits that come from an ISP are hard to match to companies other than the ISP itself. Hence, when a visit is displayed as "Google," it is more likely that these are home/business users connecting via Google's ISP, instead of Google employees browsing your site. HubSpot works to filter ISP results from Prospects and is continuing to improve to ensure that we provide the most accurate data possible.
