How does the Sources Report decide what is paid search?

There are several rules that the Sources Report uses to bucket a visit under Paid Search:

  • Tracking URL parameters (source, utm_source, utm_campaign, utm_medium) contain "ppc" or "cpc" or "adword".
    • ex. page URL = ""
    • ex. page URL = ""
    • ex. page URL = ""
  • Referral URL contains '' AND 'utm_source' or 'utm_medium' or 'utm_content' is present.
    • ex. referral URL = "" and page URL= ""
  • Visited page URL contains the Google Adwords auto-tagging parameter, "gclid=".
    • ex. visited page URL = ""
