Can a contact syncing between HubSpot and Salesforce ever have a blank email address field?

An email address must always be present for the record to continue syncing properly.

If the email address value is removed in the standard Email field within a Salesforce record leaving the field blank, then the next time they sync with HubSpot the email address value will repopulate with the most recent value found in the corresponding HubSpot record.

Even if your contact field mapping for the standard Email field is set to any of the three options other than 'Always', there is still not way, at this time, to prevent HubSpot from inputting the recent value if the value became blank in Salesforce.
