How do I fix an error marked Invalid email address on Salesforce lead or contact?

The email address on the Salesforce lead or contact is invalid (usually it is a spelling error, or it is missing part of the address like ".com").  Please fix the error in Salesforce then click "Retry Syncing Contacts."
