What do the different update rules for my Salesforce field mappings mean?

Last updated: December 22, 2016

Available For:

Marketing: Pro, Enterprise
Sales: N/A

For each field that is syncing between HubSpot and Salesforce, you have the option to control when data should sync and whether updates should be allowed or overwritten.

  • Use most recent value
    • This means that the system in which the change originates will overwrite the other. This includes deleting a value in either system.
    • For example:
      • If you change the phone number in Salesforce, this will overwrite whatever phone number exists in HubSpot
      • If you change the phone number in HubSpot, this will overwrite whatever phone number exists in Salesforce
  • Use Salesforce value unless blank
    • This choice means that HubSpot will only pass a value to Salesforce if there is currently no value in Salesforce
    • If a value does exist in Salesforce, this value will always overwrite the existing value in HubSpot, regardless of where the change originates
    • If you delete the value in Salesforce, the value will also be deleted in HubSpot.
  • Use Salesforce value
    • This choice means that HubSpot will never pass data to Salesforce, even if there is no value in Salesforce
    • If there is a value in Salesforce, the value will always overwrite the existing value in HubSpot, regardless of where the change originates
    • If you delete the value in Salesforce, the value will also be deleted in HubSpot.
  • Disabled
    • This choice means that you never want data to pass between HubSpot and Salesforce
    • Selecting this option is advisable for fields that you want to ensure are never passing data

To change the update rule for one of your field mappings, navigate to Account Menu > Integrations. Click Settings under your Salesforce Integration > Contacts Field Mappings > select the Gear Icon to the right of the field you would like to change, then choose Edit.
