Why did the social sharing counters on my blog reset to zero?

Last updated: October 12, 2015

If you change the url of a blog post, the social sharing counts associated with your articles will be lost.

Social networks store the share count and rely on the url to measure the total number of interactions a piece of content has received from users, so any change in url will cause those networks to register the post as a unique post with a new share count (starting at 0).
