While you venture through the world of Events in HubSpot, there may be some questions that come up along the way about how to get the best out of your Events. What should I be doing with Events that I'm not? And maybe even the other way around. We hope to provide some answers here to address the specific questions that may have come up for you while implementing your Events.

Why do I get an error when creating an event with the events bookmarklet?

When creating an event using the events bookmarklet, you may receive the following error message: "We couldn't create a selector for you. Please put an ID closer to the element you'd like to attach this event to."

This can happen if there's something in the source code of the page causing some confusion for the bookmarklet. To read a more detailed description on how to resolve this, check out this article.

How long does it take for Enterprise Events to update?

Enterprise Events are updated on the same time-frame as analytics in HubSpot, which means that event completions will update every 1-3 hours.

To check the last time that analytics were updated:

  • Navigate to Reports > Sources > scroll to the bottom of the chart > Data Last Updated: X Hours ago.

If a HubSpot Contact completes an event, the event will appear in their timeline within 30 minutes. However, the total event completions, as reported within the Events tool, will not update for 1-3 hours.

Can I use wildcard characters for Visited URL Events?

Yes, you can use wildcard characters in the page URL to track Visited URL events.
