Allow form submissions without email addresses to create contacts
Last updated: July 22, 2026
Available with any of the following subscriptions, except where noted:
By default, form submissions require a populated email address field to create contacts. However, you can turn on the Allow submissions without email addresses to create contacts setting to allow visitors to submit HubSpot forms without an email address and still be added to your CRM. This is an account-wide setting that affects all HubSpot forms.
A form submission without an email address may still be associated with an existing contact if the visitor is identified by tracking cookie. Learn more about how visitors are tracked in HubSpot.
Permissions required Edit forms permissions are required to edit form submission settings.
Before you get started
- If you're using a non-HubSpot form, this setting does not apply. A populated email address field is still needed to collect submissions. Learn more about using non-HubSpot forms.
- If you're using a custom email field and have this setting turned on, form submissions will create contacts. However, when the default HubSpot Email property remains empty, contacts cannot receive marketing emails, which require a primary email address.
- Since a form submission without an email address is deduplicated through tracking cookies, if two visitors with the same cookie fill out a form with no email address (e.g., if they were using the same device), both submissions may be associated with the same contact. However, if the Automatically create new contacts from unknown email addresses is turned on, each submission will create a new contact.
Allow form submissions without email addresses to create contacts
- In your HubSpot account, click the
settings icon in the top navigation bar. - In the left sidebar menu, navigate to Marketing > Forms.
- Click the Submissions Settings tab.
- Toggle the Allow submissions without email addresses to create contacts switch on.
- Click Save.
With this setting turned on, form submissions without an email address are deduplicated based on their cookies. If the visitor cannot be identified through a known cookie, a new contact may be created.
