Understand opt-out notices for HubSpot’s enrichment dataset
Last updated: July 10, 2026
Available with any of the following subscriptions, except where noted:
When you use HubSpot’s data enrichment features, you may receive opt-out notices for contacts in your CRM whose data is also in HubSpot's commercial dataset. These notices mean the individual reached out to HubSpot directly and asked HubSpot to remove their professional data from that dataset.
Below, review why these notices are sent, how opt-outs affect enriched CRM data, and what best practice actions to take to stay compliant with data protection requirements.
Why you received an enrichment opt-out notice
When enriching contact and company records, HubSpot uses its own commercial dataset, third-party providers, and publicly available sources from across the internet to find additional properties to fill or update. Individuals can opt out of this database by contacting HubSpot directly and indicating they do not want their professional details used for enrichment of contact or company records.
Data protection laws require HubSpot to remove the individual’s data and notify customers who previously received it. The opt-out notice confirms that HubSpot has deleted the individual’s enrichment data and stopped using it for enrichment purposes.
Contacts may have opted out through following methods:
- A contact submits HubSpot's Privacy Preferences form with the Delete your data from HubSpot’s commercial dataset checkbox selected.
- Some countries or regions (like the EU) require contacts that are residents of those countries to be informed by HubSpot via email when they become part of the commercial dataset. A contact can follow the steps to opt-out included in the email.
What happens when someone opts out
When a contact opts out of HubSpot’s enrichment dataset, the following occurs:
- HubSpot removes their data from enrichment systems.
- HubSpot notifies accounts that have previously received enrichment data for that contact that the contact has opted out.
- Enrichment for that contact stops.
- Contacts that have been opted out will have a property labelled enrichment opt out.
How opt-outs affect your CRM data
Receiving an opt-out notice does not delete the contact or data from your HubSpot account. The following occurs:
- Data you received from enrichment remains unchanged in your account.
- Data that you or your team added manually remains unchanged in your account.
- Future enrichment value updates stop for that contact in your account.
If you collected data about this contact independently of enrichment (for example, through a form submission or direct interaction), you may be able to retain that data. For data you received only through enrichment, we recommend you evaluate with your legal team whether you have a separate basis to continue using it.
Review and manage enriched data delete requests
When you receive an opt-out notice for a contact in your CRM, HubSpot removes that contact’s data from HubSpot’s commercial dataset. Super Admins are notified when these requests occur. The enrichment data previously added to the contact record remains in your HubSpot account.
Review enriched data delete requests pending notifications
When an individual reaches out to HubSpot to have their personal data deleted, you'll be automatically notified via email with the subject: Action needed: Enriched data delete requests pending.
In the email, you're prompted to assign the request to a user in your HubSpot data privacy settings. You can also configure automatic action for these requests. Learn more about managing enriched data delete requests.
Manage enriched data deletion requests
You have the following options to manage enriched data deletion requests:
- Manual: assign requests to Super Admins to manually check and action each request. If you want to manually handle requests, check that the automatic action setting is turned off. After the enriched data is deleted, a contact timeline event for the deletion will be automatically created.
- Automatic: turn on the setting to automatically action enriched data deletion requests. If this setting is turned on, when a contact submits a data deletion request, their enriched data will be automatically deleted from your account. After the enriched data is deleted, you'll receive a notification email. A contact timeline event for the deletion will also be automatically created.
If you have questions about how data protection laws apply to your specific circumstances, work with your legal team to determine the appropriate next steps.
Frequently asked questions
Will removing enriched data delete the contact from my CRM?
No. The contact record remains in your account. Only HubSpot-provided enrichment data is removed.
If a contact requests that their data be removed from the enrichment dataset, does this mean they have also opted out of receiving marketing communications from my account?
No. Requesting their data to be removed from the enrichment dataset is separate from marketing email subscriptions or other CRM preferences.
Will enrichment still work for other contacts?
Yes. Enrichment continues to function normally for other eligible contacts and companies.
Can a contact be re-enriched later?
No. Once an individual has been removed from HubSpot's commercial dataset, future enrichment requests will not return data for that contact.
