Available with any of the following subscriptions, except where noted:
-
Marketing Hub Professional, Enterprise
- HubSpot AEO
After setting up AEO, use prompts to track how your brand appears in answer engine responses for the queries your ideal customers are asking. Prompts represent the questions users ask in answer engines, such as ChatGPT or Perplexity. Monitoring them helps you gauge your brand's AI visibility, analyze competitors, and identify which content is earning citations.
Prompts are generated using your HubSpot data, audience, and offerings. Update this information in your Brand settings. Add and remove prompts on the Prompts tab.
Please note: you can manage AI feature access in your AI settings and configure what data is shared. Review HubSpot's AI Trust FAQs and AI Model Cards for detailed information on AI security controls, data use, and compliance.
Before you get started
Before working with AEO prompts, review the requirements and considerations.
Understand requirements
- A Super Admin must toggle the following switches on in AI Settings:
- Give users access to generative AI tools and features
- CRM data
- Customer conversion data
- Files data
- Give users access to Breeze Assistant
Understand limitations & considerations
- To align SEO efforts with AI-driven visibility, review how to set up and analyze AEO and optimize content and improve brand visibility for AI.
- Data collection begins after setting up AEO and tracking prompts.
- AEO runs tracked prompts daily. Because responses change over time, review performance across multiple days or weeks before evaluating trends.
- Prompt usage limits vary by subscription.
Understand the buyer journey phases
Each prompt is assigned to a single buyer journey phase based on its intent. Understanding these phases helps you interpret your visibility data. For example, lower brand mentions are expected at the Awareness stage, where users are exploring broad topics rather than evaluating specific solutions. Use these phases to evaluate where your brand has strong visibility and where gaps exist across the customer journey.
The four Buyer Journey phases are:
- Awareness: broad, unbranded, problem-based queries where brand mentions are typically lower.
- Consideration: unbranded queries where users compare available solutions.
- Evaluation: branded comparisons that explicitly name your company or competitors.
- Decision: high-intent queries focused on deciding whether a specific product or company meets defined needs or features.
A prompt can only be associated with one Buyer Journey stage. This ensures reporting and visibility metrics are interpreted consistently. Changing the stage isn't recommended.

- Top citations overall: lists the specific pages most frequently referenced in answer engines for your prompt.
- Citations by content type: displays the percentage of citations by content type, such as listicles, blogs, documentation, and more.
- Owned domain citation rate vs competitors: displays the percentage of how often answer engines cite content from your website versus competitor domains for your prompt.
- Citations with brand mention rate vs competitors: displays the percentage of how often your brand is referenced in citations, regardless of where the cited content originates.
Manage prompts
Manage your prompts to keep AEO tracking aligned with your current products, services, and target audiences. Add new prompts manually, organize them into groups for reporting, or remove prompts that are no longer relevant to your business.
When writing prompts, use the language your target ICP would use in answer engines based on their location. For example, if your ICP is travel agents in Spain, write prompts in Spanish.
