How to create custom Sources reports

If you read through the quick tour of Sources and Reports Home, you should be fairly familiar with the topics that will be discussed in this article. This article will show you how to create custom Sources reports, make them your default view in your portal, and get these reports emailed to you at your desired frequency.

Whether you're a new or seasoned marketer, analytics shows you how your marketing efforts are performing. You'll see in Sources where your visits are coming from, and thus which channels are working best for you. Depending on what types of views you want to focus on, you'll need to create different reports.

While you can always save a variation of your report directly from the Sources app with the Save as report button, you can also create custom Sources reports from scratch.

Follow the instructions below to create a custom report.

Navigate to Reports Home

From your HubSpot Dashboard, navigate to Reports > Reports Home.

Create a new report

Click the blue button on the right-hand side to Create a new report.

Select Sources > Create Report

This article discusses how to create Sources reports, so you'll select this report type. Please note that the Report options that you see on this screen will depend upon your HubSpot subscription level. Choose Sources, then click Create report.

Select criteria

First, you want to choose what criteria you want to build your report off of. Click the dropdown to toggle building reports off visits, contacts or customers created.

Select sources to report on. The default selects all sources, but you can remove this and select specific sources you wish to report on.

You can also check the box nex to 'show offline sources' if you want to include contacts that have been imported, etc. into this report.

Next, you want to select the time period to report on. Like in Reports > Sources, you'll be able to select a variety of different time periods and how you want that date-based data filtered, by daily, weekly or monthly (choices contingent on the time period selected).

Filter by domains if you're looking to view just a specific domain hosted in HubSpot. Note that only Primary domains listed in your domain manager will be available here; secondary and non-HubSpot-hosted domains will not be available as filters. Leave as All domains if you want to see data for all of your domains, which includes data for those domains outside of HubSpot.

Choose graph type of standard or cumulative.

  • The standard graph shows the results specific to the time period filter (daily, weekly, monthly).
  • The cumulative graph shows the results as a growing total, with the benchmarks displayed for the time period filter.

Notice the change in the 'example data' graph when viewing the type as cumulative.

Create report

Once satisfied with the data you wish to report on, change the name of the report if you wish to easily find it, then click Create report.

Once created, you'll view this data as a sources report with the name of that report in the Reports picklist in Sources.

Make default & Email report

Within your report you can click Make default report which will be the report that appears whenever you navigate to Reports > Sources from elsewhere in HubSpot. This is set on a per user, per portal basis. If you are a user in multiple portals, this default report is only set for the portal you elected to make default report.

You can also elect to Email report to yourself or to any of your colleagues. The emailed report does not need to be sent to an existing user in HubSpot; this can be sent to the email address(es) of your choosing.

HubSpot recommends checking in on your analytics data at least once a week, but you can choose to send this and any other custom report at the timing of your choice. You can create a schedule for this particular report to be sent at a frequency.
