Changing the background color of a single email requires editing the custom HTML version of the template. Note that this method requires basic HTML knowledge.
  • Navigate in your HubSpot Marketing portal to Content > Design Manager.

  • Open your email template and click on Actions > Clone to file.

  • Keep or edit the File Name and Location of the cloned template and then click Clone.
  • In your newly cloned template, hit Ctrl+F on your keyboard to find {{ background_color }}. Please note that this token may be present more than once in the coded template you have just created.

Replace all necessary instances of the {{ background_color }} token with a desired # hexadecimal color value. You may need to switch to the Preview tab in your coded file to preview your changes to make sure the correct tokens have been updated.

  • Alternatively, if you are familiar with HubL, you can define the {{ background_color }} variable in your coded file before the opening <html> tag. This would look something like {% set background_color = '#F7761F' %}. Read more on this method here.
  • Click Actions > Save and Publish Changes.

  • Navigate to Content > Email to create a new email with this template, or select an existing email and click on Actions > Change Template to use your new template.

If you want to change the background color for all of your email templates, you can follow the instructions here.
