Create leads

In HubSpot, leads are contacts or companies that are potential customers who have shown interest in your products or services. You can create leads from contacts or from other HubSpot tools.

To customize how leads are created, learn how to set the properties that appear when users create leads.

Create leads from contacts

To create leads from contacts:

  1. In your HubSpot account, navigate to CRM > Contacts.
  2. On the contact index page, select the checkboxes next to the contacts you want to create leads for.
  3. At the top of the table, click Create leads.

  1. In the right panel, select the Lead Pipeline, Lead pipeline stage, Lead Type, and Lead Label.
  2. Click Create.

Create leads manually

You can create leads manually from the leads index page or the sales workspace.

Create leads from the leads index page

If you have Edit permissions for leads, you can create leads from the leads index page.

  1. In your HubSpot account, navigate to CRM > Leads.
  2. In the upper right, click Create Lead.
  3. In the right panel, click Contact to create a contact lead or click Company to create a company lead.
  4. In the dropdown menu, select the contact or company record the lead will be associated with. If the Sync lead owner with contact and company owner switch is turned on in your settings, you can only associate contacts or companies you own, and you can only create new leads from contacts or companies you own.
  5. In the Lead Name field, enter the name of the lead.
  6. To set a stage, click the Lead Pipeline Stage dropdown menu and select the stage.
  7. To set the lead type, click the Lead Type dropdown menu and select the type.
  8. To set a lead label, click the Lead Label dropdown menu and select the label.
  9. Click Create Lead.

Create leads from the sales workspace

If you have an assigned Sales Hub seat and a Super Admin has given you access to the Leads tab, you can create leads in the sales workspace.

  1. In your HubSpot account, navigate to Sales > Sales Workspace.
  2. In the top menu, click the Leads tab.
  3. In the top right, click Create Lead.
  4. In the right panel, click Contact to create a contact lead or click Company to create a company lead.
  5. In the dropdown menu, select the contact or company record the lead will be associated with. If the Sync lead owner with contact and company owner switch is turned on in your settings, you can only associate contacts or companies you own, and you can only create new leads from contacts or companies you own.
  6. In the Lead Name field, enter the name of the lead.
  7. To set a stage, click the Lead Pipeline Stage dropdown menu and select the stage.
  8. To set the lead stage, click the Lead Type dropdown menu and select the type.
  9. To set a lead label, click the Lead Label dropdown menu and select the label.
  10. Click Create Lead.

Create leads using workflows

To create leads using workflows, create a workflow and add the Create record action.
