Exclude records from an active segment
Last updated: December 10, 2025
Available with any of the following subscriptions, except where noted:
To prevent specific records from being added to an active segment, you can add exclusions. Records that are excluded will not be included in the segment even if they meet the filter requirements.
For example, you have a segment of disqualified contacts. You can exclude the segment of disqualified contacts from being added to your segment of good leads, even if the contacts otherwise meet the other criteria.
Exclude records or other segments when configuring filters
To exclude records from a segment while setting up or editing a segment's filters:
- In your HubSpot account, navigate to CRM > Segments.
- Create a new active segment or edit an existing active segment's filters.
- Toggle the Exclude contacts switch on.
- Click the dropdown menus to select segments or records you want to exclude from the segment. You can exclude up to five segments or 25 records from a segment.
- Continue creating or editing your segment.

Records that were individually selected or included in selected segments will not be added to the segment moving forward, even if they meet the segment filter criteria. Learn more about creating and editing segments.
Select records to exclude within an existing segment
If records are already included in a segment, to exclude them moving forward:
- In your HubSpot account, navigate to CRM > Segments.
- Click the name of an active segment.
- In the segment, select the checkboxes of records to exclude.
- At the top of the table, click Exclude from segment.
- In the dialog box, click Exclude and reprocess to confirm.

The segment will be reprocessed and the selected records will be removed. The records will not be added to the segment moving forward, even if they meet the segment filter criteria.
