Change your language for the conversations tool

Last updated: September 18, 2018

When editing the language of your targeted messages, there are two factors involved: the language you see in your conversations inbox and the language visitors see in your chat widget when visiting your site.

  • Customize the language you see as a user: you change the language your conversations tool is in for you as the HubSpot user.
  • Customize the language your visitors see: the language of your chat widget's content that your website visitors see on your site page(s) is determined by individual user settings, individual chat settings, and contextual widget data.

Individual user settings

The optional text that a user enters for their Job title, Introduction, and Meetings link text is entirely configurable by the individual user. You can change the text in these fields to any language:

  • In your HubSpot account, click the settings icon settings in the main navigation bar.
  • On the left, navigate to Conversations > My profile.
  • Customize the language your text is in for the Job title, Introduction, and Meetings link text fields.

Individual targeted message settings

When editing each targeted message, both the Welcome Message and Email capture message are entirely configurable and can be changed to any language. For this reason, create separate messages if you have versions of your website in different languages, and set the target audiences accordingly.

To edit an individual message's welcome message and email capture message:

  • In your HubSpot account, click the settings icon settings in the main navigation bar.
  • On the left, navigate to Conversations > Inboxes
  • Hover over the inbox that contains your targeted message, then click Edit
  • In the left sidebar, click Chat to access your targeted messages.
  • Hover over a specific targeted message and click Edit.

  • Select Message from the left sidebar menu to edit your welcome message, where you can enter text in any language.

Contextual widget data

Some of the text on your chat widget is translated into the language your website visitor has set in their language preferences for their system or web browser.

The following information is included in your contextual widget data:

  • The date and time stamps
  • The Send button
  • The write a message prompt
  • The email address prompt, help text, and confirmation message
  • The typically replies in message
  • The will return at message

Follow-up transcript email

The language of the email that a visitor receives containing the transcript of their conversation with you is determined by the language set for your account
