What is the difference between the two unsubscribe links at the bottom of an email?

Last updated: January 6, 2016

Default HubSpot email templates will already contain two subscription links in the footer allowing for contact recipients to either manage their preferences or completely opt out of receiving all future emails. You may edit your email template(s) to contain both of these links or simply one or the other in the CAN-SPAM email footer module.

Subscriptions Link: {{unsubscribe_link}}

  • The 'Subscriptions Link', which looks like {{unsubscribe_link}} in hubL format, allows contact recipients to select which email types they wish to opt-in to or opt-out of
  • Appropriate sample text that a contact may click on would be: "Click here to manage your email preferences"
  • Here's what the hubL token looks like in the source code when the token is inserted as a link in the email editor:
    <a href="{{unsubscribe_link}}">Click here to manage your email preferences</a>

Automatically Unsubscribe Link: {{unsubscribe_link_all}}

  • The 'Automatically Unsubscribe Link', which looks like {{unsubscribe_link_all}} in hubL format, allows contacts to opt-out of all email communications
  • Appropriate sample text that a contact may click on would be: "Click here to opt-out of all email communication"
  • Here's what the hubL token looks like in the source code when the token is inserted as a link in the email editor:
    <a href="{{unsubscribe_link_all}}">Click here to opt-out of all email communication</a>
