Smart content modules display different versions of your content based on viewer criteria. For example, you could create alternatives for visitors from a specific country or those viewing on a mobile device. Learn more about how to choose smart content criteria.
In the page editor, you can make any default or custom module smart except the Blog content module.
Add smart content to a blog post, landing page, or website page
- In your HubSpot account, navigate to Marketing > Website Pages, Landing Pages or Blog.
- Hover over an existing page and click Edit or create a new page.
- Within the page editor, click the module you want to make smart.
Please note:
- Form modules will not show smart editing options until a form is selected.
- Calls-to-action can be made smart in the CTA editor and in CTA modules on pages. HubSpot recommends applying smart rules in only one location.
- In the left panel, click Add.

- In the right panel, click the Show different content based on dropdown menu and select a rule type. You can only select one rule type per module.
- Click Add smart rule.
- Select your smart rule criteria.
- Click Add smart rule again to add additional rules based on the same rule type.
- To change the rule type, click the trash icon delete next to each existing rule. Then click the Show different content based on dropdown menu and select a different rule type.
- When you have added all smart rules, click Save.
- In the left panel, click the Editing for dropdown menu to switch between the default content and smart content for each rule.
- Depending on the module type, edit your content in the left panel or in the preview on the right.
Visitors to your page who meet the criteria of a smart rule will see the content you’ve set for that rule. If a visitor meets the criteria of multiple rules, they will see the content set for the matching rule that appears first on the list. Click Manage smart rules in the left panel to see the list of rules and make changes as needed.
