Import contacts

Available with any of the following subscriptions, except where noted:

Use the quick contact import tool to create or update contacts in your HubSpot account from a spreadsheet. This option reduces the number of steps needed to complete an import. For example, add new contacts or apply contact bulk updates without configuring object associations or advanced settings.

If you need to import objects other than contacts (e.g., activities, deals, companies), create associations, or perform advanced import actions, use the advanced import tool instead.

Understand requirements

Permissions required Import permissions are required to import contacts.

The file imported into HubSpot must:

  • Contain contact data only.
  • Be a .csv, .xlsx, or .xls file.

Import contacts

  1. In your HubSpot account, navigate to Data Management > Data Integration.
  2. Click Import data.
  3. Click Quick import (contacts only).
  4. Select your import file
  5. Click Next.
  6. Review each column mapping to confirm it’s correct.
  7. If a column isn’t mapped:
    • In the HubSpot Property column, click the property dropdown menu and select the appropriate property. Click Create new property if the property you want doesn't exist.
    • Repeat for other properties if necessary.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Enter a name for your import.
  10. Select the consent checkbox.
  11. Click Finish import.
