Analyze marketing email insights (BETA)

You can review and analyze regularly updated recommendations for your marketing emails on the marketing email index page and performance page. HubSpot will generate new insights for your sent emails on a daily basis to proactively detect performance deviations, allowing you to make any adjustments to your email marketing strategy.

Criteria for generated insights

The following conditions must be met before insights can be generated for a specific marketing email:

  • A minimum of 30 emails, with at least 250 recipients each, must have been sent from your HubSpot account in the last 90 days. These emails all must be the same type (e.g., regular or automated).
  • Regular emails are evaluated two days after they've been sent. Automated emails are evaluated once a month.
  • Only emails with a minimum of 250 recipients will be evaluated.

Analyze insights on the marketing email index page

To review email insights on the marketing email index page:

  • In your HubSpot account, navigate to Marketing > Marketing Email.
  • A summary of email insights will appear in the top right of the current view of your emails. This summary includes a filter on how insights are calculated, as well as an aggregate count of negative trends and positive trends for your email open rates.

  • By default, all insight data will be calculated based on the average open rate across all emails in your account. To update how your email performance is being calculated, click the Compare insights with dropdown menu, then select an option:
    • Campaign average: compare with other emails in the same campaign.
    • Same email month over month: compare the performance of automated emails from last month against the previous six months.
  • Click Insights to review a full list of generated insights:
    • In the right panel, click the thumbsDown To improve or thumbsUp Doing well tabs to switch between negative or positive deviations in your email open rate, then review the list of associated recommendations.
    • You can click View performance to navigate directly to a specific email that prompted the insight.

  • In the list of your emails, a report icon will appear next to any email that's associated with generated insights you can review.
    • Hover over the email and click reports View insights for more details.
    • In the right panel, you can read through a full summary of the performance details of the email, along with an explanation and recommended actions you can take for future emails.
    • To provide feedback on whether the insight was helpful, click the thumbsUp thumbs up icon or thumbsDown thumbs down icon at the bottom of the panel. You can categorize your feedback by selecting an option, and provide qualitative feedback in the text box.

  • On the email performance page for a specific email, a summary of any available insights will also appear above the rest of your deliverability metrics.
