Append or replace multiple checkbox property values

Available with any of the following subscriptions, except where noted:

Update multiple checkbox property values in bulk via an import. This allows you to append or replace existing values on records. For example, appending values for the property Buying Role on certain contacts. The import row formatting requirements differ depending on appending a value or replacing it. Before you get started

Prior to importing, ensure your spreadsheet contains a column for a unique value property. This ensures you update the appropriate existing records. Depending on the object, select from:

Your file must be in a .csv, .xlsx, or .xls file containing one sheet. Learn more about other technical requirements.

Permissions required  Import permissions and Edit permissions for the object you're importing are required to import record and activities.

Append multiple checkbox values

  1. Set up your import file with the following columns at a minimum:
    • Unique value property: depending on the object you want to import, add a column for the appropriate property (e.g., Email or Record ID).
    • Multiple checkbox property: the row must contain the semicolon prior to the first value (e.g., ;Espresso;latte). The property options must exist in HubSpot prior to the import.

  2. In your HubSpot account, navigate to Data Management > Data Integration.
  3. On the Import a file section, click Import data.
  4. Click Start import.
  5. Select the object you want to import (e.g., contacts, appointments), then click Next.
  6. Click the Choose how to import [objects/activities] dropdown menu and select Update existing [records/activities] only. Learn more about how to create and update records instead. 
  7. Click choose a file, then select your import file.
  8. Click Next.
  9. On the Map columns in your file to [object] properties screen, click the dropdown menus in the HubSpot Property column and select the properties that you want to update (e.g., EmailCoffee Preference).

  10. Click Next.
  11. Enter an import name.
  12. If you’re importing contacts:
    • Select the Create a contacts segment from this import checkbox to automatically create a segment of the imported contacts.
    • Select the Consent checkbox to agree that contacts expect to hear from you and that your import file does not include a purchased list. Learn more about HubSpot's acceptable use policy.
    • If you've turned on data privacy settings in your account, click the Set the legal basis for processing a contact's data dropdown menu and select a legal basis of processing.
  13. Click Finish Import.

Replace multiple checkbox values

  1. Set up your import file with the following minimum columns:
    • Unique value property: depending on the object you want to import, add a column for the appropriate property (e.g., Email or Record ID).
    • Multiple checkbox property: the row must contain the first value then a semicolon between other values (e.g., Drip;Iced drip). The property options must exist in HubSpot prior to the import.

  2. In your HubSpot account, navigate to Data Management > Data Integration.
  3. On the Import a file section, click Import data.
  4. Click Start import.
  5. Select the object you want to import (e.g., contacts, appointments), then click Next.
  6. Click the Choose how to import [objects/activities] dropdown menu and select Update existing [records/activities] only. Learn more about how to create and update records instead.
  7. Click choose a file, then select your import file.
  8. Click Next.
  9. On the Map columns in your file to [object] properties screen, click the dropdown menus in the HubSpot Property column and select the properties that you want to update (e.g., EmailCoffee Preference).

  10. Click Next.
  11. Enter an import name.
  12. If you’re importing contacts:
    • Select the Create a contacts segment from this import checkbox to automatically create a segment of the imported contacts.

  13. Click Finish Import.
