Automatically link subtopic content to your pillar page
Last updated: April 26, 2022
For content attached to a topic in the SEO tool, the pillar page link module adds an internal link to the pillar page in the SEO tool. Search engines use crawlers to become familiar with different websites, and internal links lead these crawlers from your subtopic content to your pillar page.
Please note: for the pillar page link module to populate, the pillar page for that topic must be published.
The module generates a link to your pillar page in a module container that says: Topic: Core topic, with the core topic name linking to the pillar page. The content of this module can be customized on the template or an individual page or blog post.
Add the pillar page link module to your template
- In your HubSpot account, click the Marketplace icon marketplace in the main navigation bar.
- Click Asset Marketplace.
- Under the search bar, click Modules.

- Use the search bar to search for the Pillar Page Link module.
- In the top right, click Get module for free.
- Add this module to a page or blog template. The module will be included on new content created with this template. Any existing content created with this template will be updated to include the module.
Customize the module on a page or blog post
-
Navigate to your content:
- Website Pages: In your HubSpot account, navigate to Marketing > Website > Website Pages.
- Landing Pages: In your HubSpot account, navigate to Marketing > Landing Pages.
- Blog: In your HubSpot account, navigate to Marketing > Website > Blog.
- Hover over the page or blog post you want to update, then click Edit.
- Click the module icon integrations to open the sidebar editor panel.
- Enter the text you want to appear before the pillar page link in the Preceding text field.
- Click to toggle the Override topic name with custom linked text switch on, then, replace with the custom text that will link to your pillar page.
Please note: it's recommended to use the default token that links to your pillar page. Using the core topic name consistently helps search engines understand the content of your page.
