Contacts

If a contact meets a lead scoring rule, do they always keep those points, even if they no longer meet that rule?

No. Contacts only keep points from lead scoring rules when they meet all of the criteria for that rule. When a contact no longer meets the criteria of a lead scoring rule, they no longer receive the points for that rule.

For example, you have a lead scoring rule set up to Add 10 points if a contact has any form submission within the last week:

Lead scoring
Lead scoring
  • If a contact has filled out any HubSpot form on your website in the last 1 week, they get 10 points added to their HubSpot Score
  • If that same contact goes 1 week without submitting another form, their most recent form submission was more than 1 week ago, they lose the 10 points from their HubSpot score because they no longer meet that lead scoring rule rule

Think of lead scoring rules like Lists. If a contact meets the criteria for a list they are added to the list. When they no longer meet the criteria for the list, they are removed from that list. The same goes with lead scoring rules -- when the contact no longer meets the criteria for a lead scoring rule, they no longer receive the points for that rule.
