If you use HubSpot payments or Stripe as a payment processing option in HubSpot, taxes may apply to your payment processing fees beginning Aug. 3, 2026, depending on your business location and tax status. Use this article to understand which taxes may apply, review your tax invoice, add tax IDs and exemptions, and find answers to common questions.

Which taxes apply to payment processing fees?

HubSpot will collect sales tax, VAT, GST, or similar transaction taxes where applicable based on your business location. These taxes may apply to the following fees:

  • Platform fees: a fee for each payment transaction, creating a complete payment transaction experience with HubSpot’s revenue tools, including invoices, payment links, quotes, legacy quotes, and subscriptions. The platform fee varies depending on the chosen payment processing option.

  • Processing fees: a per transaction fee you pay for processing transactions via a credit card, debit card, or bank debit (e.g., ACH, SEPA) for your goods or services.

Why am I being charged tax on payment processing fees?

HubSpot's platform and payment processing fees are legally taxable in many jurisdictions. This is a compliance obligation, not a price increase.

Which payment processing fees are taxed?

Both the platform fee and payment processing fee may be taxed where applicable under local tax law. Learn more about rates and fees

When will tax collection begin for payment processing fees?

Starting Aug. 3, 2026, HubSpot will start rolling out tax collection by country. The rollout will be completed for all countries by the end of August 2026.

Do I need to add a tax ID or VAT number?

If you are located outside of the U.S. and the Tax ID field is available for you, you can update this information in your Company Info account settings.

I'm an EU business with a valid VAT number. Will HubSpot charge VAT?

No. The reverse charge mechanism applies. HubSpot will not apply VAT to your invoice and you will need to determine if you are required to self-report the tax to your local tax authority. Your invoice will state Reverse Charge applies.

I'm a U.S.-based customer and my business is tax-exempt. What should I do?

U.S.-based tax-exempt customers in a taxable state should provide a valid sales tax exemption form. Please forward your form to billing@hubspot.com for processing.

I'm a U.S.-based tax-exempt customer, but sales tax appeared on my invoice. Can I get a refund?

U.S.-based tax-exempt customers in a taxable state should provide a valid sales tax exemption form. Please forward your form to billing@hubspot.com for processing. Please note that HubSpot will not refund sales tax on invoices previously issued.

Where can I find my tax invoices?

From September 2026 onwards, a monthly tax invoice will be available on the Account and Billing page of your account.

How is my tax rate calculated?

Your tax rate is calculated based on the address in the Company Info section of your account settings.

Will tax be refunded if a transaction is refunded?

No. HubSpot doesn't refund tax charges on platform or processing fees when a payment is refunded.

If my address changes, when will the correct tax rate apply?

There can be a delay of up to one business day for the new rate to take effect. Verify that your Primary Company Address in Account & Billing is up to date.

I received a sales tax email, but HubSpot doesn't collect tax in my U.S. state. Do I need to do anything?

No. Based on your state location, HubSpot will not apply sales tax to your processing or platform fees. You do not need to submit an exemption form.

Will HubSpot’s tax charges affect the taxes I charge my customers?

No. HubSpot is only applying tax to the processing and platform fees it charges you for using its services. It has no impact on the goods or services you provide to your own customers, or the taxes you collect on those transactions.

How will the tax amount be charged?

Applicable taxes are deducted from your payout alongside your platform and processing fees.

Where can I see taxes charged on platform and processing fees?

You can view taxes charged from the individual payment record. A summary of all taxes charged is also available on the monthly tax invoice on the Account and Billing page of your account.
