Personalized content attracts your viewer's attention, and improves engagement with your content. Personalization tokens render property values based on your tracked contacts' associated CRM records. If someone viewing your content doesn't have a value for the property you're using to personalize your content, the default value will be shown instead.

When inserting a personalization token, you can set a default value directly within the content editor. You can also apply the global default value set for the personalization token, which is managed within your account settings.

How to use local default values for personalization

Each personalization token within a rich text module can have a unique default value. This is useful if you have variations of your content in different languages, or if you’re using the same personalization token more than once within the same content.

  • Navigate to your content:

    • Website Pages: In your HubSpot account, navigate to Marketing > Website > Website Pages.
    • Landing Pages: In your HubSpot account, navigate to Marketing > Landing Pages.
    • Email: In your HubSpot account, navigate to Marketing > Email.
  • Locate the specific email or page you're looking to edit. Hover over the name of the page or email and click Edit. If you're creating a new piece of content, click Create in the top right corner.
  • Within the content editor, click on the rich text module where you want to add personalization.
  • In the upper right corner of the rich text toolbar, click Personalize.
  • Click the Token dropdown menu, then type in the search bar to look up the property you want to use to personalize your content. Click the property to select it as your personalization token.

  • Enter a default value, which will appear for any visitors who don't have a value for the property you've selected. If you've set global default values for any personalization tokens that you want to apply to this content, select the Use this property's global default value checkbox.
  • Click Insert.
