How does the sources report decide what is a referral?

Last updated: November 17, 2017

Applies to:

Marketing Hub: Basic, Pro, Enterprise
  • A referral is traffic from a URL that does not contain any UTM tracking parameters and is from a domain that is not a known search engine, social media site, or domain listed under Domains within your reports settings in HubSpot.
  • For example, if a visitor clicks on a link from cnn.com to visit blog.hubspot.com, we would consider this visit a referral from cnn.com. To filter your sources report to show referrals, select the Referrals box in your sources report.

  • Check out this article to learn more about how HubSpot categorizes visits in the sources report.
