This article walks you through how to upload and organize the files in your account's file manager. You can either upload assets when adding content (images, documents, etc.) via the content editor or you can access the standalone app. This tutorial explains how to use the standalone tool.
Choose a custom domain to host your files
This step is optional, but before you begin uploading your design assets to the file manager, you may want to select a custom domain to host your assets, rather than hosting your files on a HubSpot CDN domain.
To select a default file manager hosting domain, navigate to Content > Content Settings and choose from any of your domains connected to HubSpot from the dropdown under Default File Manager Hosting Domain. To learn more about connecting a domain to HubSpot, check out this article.
Access file manager
Navigate to Content > File Manager. You can also access file manager from the sidebar of design manager.
Create folders to organize your files
Once you are in your file manager, you'll want to create some folders to organize your content. Staying organized with folders will not only help during the design process, but also when marketers need to locate specific assets while creating content.
You can create a new folder by clicking Create folder in the upper righthand corner.
Upload files to a folder
Now you can open a folder you've created by clicking on its name.
There are two ways to upload files:
- Click on Upload files to browse your computer's hard drive for files to upload.
- Drag the files from your hard drive to the open file manager window and release.
Get file URL
The quickest way to copy the URL of a file is by clicking Copy URL from the sidebar of the file manager.

Search for files
You can use the search bar at the top of file manager to search for any file or top-level folder. The search is not limited to the folder that you are currently viewing.
Replace files in the File Manager
You can replace a file in your file manager by clicking on the file name in question. Next, in the right sidebar, click Replace. Since HubSpot files are hosted across a content delivery network that loads your assets from all around the globe, after you replace a file, you may sometimes see the cached version of the file for a period of time.
You can move a file in your file manager by hovering over the file and then clicking Move.
Choose the folder that you want to move the file to and then click the Move button to finish moving the file.
If you want to hide a file from appearing in your file manager, but not delete it permanently and have it still be accessible at its public URL, click on the file name and click Archive in the right sidebar.
To see a list of your archived files, you can use the drop-down menu at the top of file manager to view Archived files.
You can permanently delete a file from your file manager by clicking on the file name and then selecting Delete in the right sidebar.
Clone & edit
For images, there is a Clone & edit option. This option gives you advanced photo capabilities. You can learn more about editing photos here.
Export all files
You can export a zipped archive of all of your files, too. Just click on the Export button at the top of the file manager and provide an email address for us to email a link to where you can download the zip file when it's ready.
Inserting file URLs into the code editor
The URLs for any files uploaded into file manager are available to be inserted directly into the code editor in design manager. While working on a coded file, click Actions > Insert file URL to insert the URL of a file from file manager into your code.
