Set up leads (BETA)

Please note: The following functionality is currently in public beta and is subject to change.

Before you begin managing your leads in the prospecting workspace, users with an assigned Sales Hub seat can configure the leads settings for your account.

To navigate to leads settings: 

  • In your HubSpot account, click the settings settings icon in the main navigation bar.
  • In the left sidebar menu, navigate to Objects > Leads.

Configure leads settings

  • To automatically create a lead based on lifecycle stage, click to toggle the Create a lead based on lifecycle stage switch on. Then, in the Select lifecycle stages section, select the lifecycle stage you want to trigger the creation of a lead.
  • To automatically set a lifecycle stage when a lead is associated, click to toggle the Set lifecycle stage when a lead is associated toggle on. Then, in the Set lifecycle stage to section, select the lifecycle stage you want the associated companies or contacts set to.


  • Click Save.

Configure disqualification settings

When a user disqualifies a lead, they can set a disqualification reason.

  • To require a disqualification reason when a lead is moved to disqualified, click to toggle the Require disqualification reason toggle on.



  • In the Configure disqualification reasons section, you can customize the disqualification reasons that will display when a lead is disqualified. 
    • To reorder the reasons click and drag them to a new position.
    • To remove a reason, click the X next to that reason.
    • To edit the name of a reason, click the text.
    • To add a reason, click + Add reason.disqualification_gif
  • Click Save.

 Configure lead stages

On the Lead Stages tab, you can customize your lead stages. 

  • To reorder the stages click and drag them to a new category.
  • To remove a stage, click the X next to that stage.


  • Click Save.
