How do Salesforce lead owners get assigned?

If a new contact is created in HubSpot and synced to Salesforce as a new lead without a HubSpot Owner, the owner will be assigned by Salesforce lead assignment rules.

However, if a new HubSpot contact is created and syncs to Salesforce, where the contact already exists and therefore already has an active Salesforce Owner, Salesforce lead assignment rules will not apply.

If a contact has already synced from HubSpot to Salesforce and no HubSpot Owner value exists, HubSpot Owner will be populated with the Salesforce Owner information.

Additionally, on a contact that has already previously synced, if the HubSpot Owner value differs from what is in Salesforce, and the HubSpot Owner value matches a different Salesforce owner, then the Salesforce Owner of that lead or contact will change on update.
