How can I see which contacts originated in the HubSpot CRM?

For accounts using both the HubSpot CRM and Marketing platforms, users may wish to distinguish between contacts created in either platform. This article suggests using two list filters to identify those contacts created via the HubSpot CRM. For example, you may use this list to exclude contacts in your marketing emails. Also, this article assumes users of the HubSpot CRM have installed the HubSpot Sales email extension for tracking external emails.

For creating the list, the two list filters to use are: Original Source Drill-Down 1 and Original Source Drill-Down 2. Older HubSpot accounts may see the terms as Original Source Data 1 and Original Source Data 2. See this article to learn more.

  • To create the list, navigate to Contacts > Lists
  • Click New List > Segment contacts by Contact Property
  • Search for the Contact Property called Original Source Drill-Down 1 > Is Equal to > type the term in capslock: SALES > click Done
  • Click the And button > Segment contacts by Contact Property > Search for the Contact Property called Original Source Drill-Down 2 > type the term in capslock: CRM_UI
  • Click the Or button > Segment contacts by Contact Property > Search for the Contact Property called Original Source Drill-Down 1 > type the term in capslock: SALES
  • Click the And button > Segment contacts by Contact Property > Search for the Contact Property called Original Source Drill-Down 2 > type the term in capslock: BCC_TO_CRM
  • Name and Save your list

*The contacts who become members of this list are those who were added to the HubSpot CRM one-off or imported in bulk, or were created via HubSpot Sales' features to Log In CRM or BCC-To-CRM.
