How to create and edit email types for your marketing emails

Email types help to inform your email recipients why they are receiving an email from you. They also allow you to give recipients more subscription preference options, as they can choose to unsubscribe from certain specific email types instead of all communication from you. To create an email type:

Create a new email type

  • In your HubSpot Marketing account, navigate to Content > Content Settings.
  • Choose Marketing Email from the left side, then select the Types tab.
  • Click Create email type in the upper-right corner and enter a Name and Description. Select the This email type is active checkbox if you wish to include this email type among your the subscription types listed on your email subsciption preferences page. When you're all done, click Save.

You will be able to choose which email type to send when you draft a new email.

 View and edit email types

You can see the NAME and DESCRIPTION of all your email types in your settings. You can use the Filter by dropdown menu to adjust the view to include active, inactive, or all email types. The Active column will indiciate which emails are Active or Inactive.

To update the details for one of your existing email types, hover your mouse next to that email type name and click Edit. In this screen you can update the NameDescription, and set this email type to active or inactive.

 Please note: email types cannot be deleted, they can only be set to inactive status.
