Contracts are the centralized source of truth for committed revenue in HubSpot. By managing contracts in HubSpot, you can record and manage existing contract agreements, manually record payments or automatically bill buyers, make updates over the duration of a contract, renew contracts, and accurately report revenue.

View contract records
Permissions required Super Admin or View permissions for contracts are required to view contracts.
View contracts on the index page
Use the contract index page to view all contracts and to create and use saved views to filter contracts by specific criteria. To view all contracts:
- In your HubSpot account, click More, then navigate to Revenue > Contracts. If More doesn't appear in your account, navigate to Revenue > Contracts directly.
- To edit the columns that appear in the table, click Edit columns in the upper right of the table.
- To filter the index page, click the filter dropdown menus (e.g., Status) and set your filter criteria. Contracts can have the following statuses:
- Scheduled: when a contract is created with a future effective date, the status is set to Scheduled. On the effective date, the status is set to Active.
- Active: a contract that's currently in effect.
- Completed: a contract that's reached its end date.
- Terminated: a contract that has been terminated.
- Draft: a contract that isn't finalized.
- To set custom filters, click Advanced filters at the top of the table.
- To save a view for future use, click the Save icon at the upper right of the table.
- To preview the contract details, hover over the contract and click Preview. View the details in the right panel.
- To view the contract record, click the contract name.

View contracts on associated CRM records
To view a contract from one of its associated records (for example, a contact, company, or invoice):
- Navigate to your records. For example:
- In your HubSpot account, click More, then navigate to CRM > Contacts. If More doesn't appear in your account, navigate to CRM > Contacts directly.
- In your HubSpot account, click More, then navigate to CRM > Companies. If More doesn't appear in your account, navigate to CRM > Companies directly.
- In your HubSpot account, click More, then navigate to Revenue > Invoices. If More doesn't appear in your account, navigate to Revenue > Invoices directly.
- In your HubSpot account, click More, then navigate to Revenue > Quotes. If More doesn't appear in your account, navigate to Revenue > Quotes directly.
- Open the right sidebar by clicking the name of a record, or by clicking the Preview icon. The behavior depends on the object index page you're on.
- In the right sidebar, navigate to the Contracts card to view the contract status. If the Contracts card isn't appearing on your record by default, you can manually add the card.
- To view additional details, hover over the contract and click the
Preview icon, or click the contract name to navigate to the contract.

- Review the contract details in the right panel.
View the contract overview, activities, and history
Use the contract record to understand the contract information, including performance, associated line items, billing schedule, renewal information, timeline of activities, and history.
- In your HubSpot account, click More, then navigate to Revenue > Contracts. If More doesn't appear in your account, navigate to Revenue > Contracts directly.
- In the middle column, click the Overview tab to view a snapshot of the contract performance, line items, billing schedule, and renewal information.
- The Contract performance card displays total contract value (TCV), annual contract value (ACV), recurring revenue information, the contract end date, and the amount billed. Evergreen contracts don't calculate TCV or ACV as they have no end date.

- The Current and upcoming line items card lists each of the contract's line items and their properties (e.g., price, quantity, billing schedule, term, pricing model).

- The Renewal information card displays the renewal status, based on any finalized renewals or accepted renewal quotes for the contract.

- The Contract performance card displays total contract value (TCV), annual contract value (ACV), recurring revenue information, the contract end date, and the amount billed. Evergreen contracts don't calculate TCV or ACV as they have no end date.
- Click the Activities tab to view a timeline of communications (e.g., emails and calls), team activity (meetings, notes, tasks), updates to the contract, and associated invoices, deals, and tickets.

- Click the History tab to view details of contract edits, direct renewals, and renewal quotes including changes in recurring revenue and line item additions or removals.

Manage contracts
Subscription required A Revenue Hub subscription is required to manage contracts unless you're enrolled in the Direct Create, Edit, and Renew HubSpot Contracts beta.
Seats required A Revenue Hub seat is required to manage contracts unless you're enrolled in the Direct Create, Edit, and Renew HubSpot Contracts beta.
Permissions required Super Admin or Edit or Delete permissions for contracts are required to manage contracts.
On a contract record, you can manage a contract’s details. Edit and renew contracts, create change and renewal quotes, update payment methods, terminate contracts, and manage associations.
Please note: to edit contracts without creating a change quote, opt your account into the Direct Create, Edit, and Renew HubSpot Contracts beta.
Edit draft contracts (BETA)
Edit draft contracts to update seller and buyer information, the collection process, the payment method being charged, the line items of the contract, and checkout settings. To edit a draft contract:
- In your HubSpot account, click More, then navigate to Revenue > Contracts. If More doesn't appear in your account, navigate to Revenue > Contracts directly.
- Click the name of a contract.
- In the upper left, click Actions, then select Edit.
- Update the contract.
- To save the contract as a draft, in the top left, click Back.
- To finalize the contract, in the top right, click Finalize.
Edit finalized contracts (BETA)
Edit finalized contracts to update seller and buyer information, the collection process, the payment method being charged, the line items of the contract, and checkout settings. If you want to use a quote-based process for proposing and approving changes to an existing contract, learn more about creating change quotes.
- In your HubSpot account, click More, then navigate to Revenue > Contracts. If More doesn't appear in your account, navigate to Revenue > Contracts directly.
- Click the name of a contract.
- In the upper left, click Actions, then select Edit.
- In the dialog box, click Edit contract directly.
Edit the contract buyer and seller details
Edit the contract buyer and seller details in the Parties section:
- Click to expand the Parties section.
- To update the seller company details, under Seller:
- Hover over the seller and click the edit edit icon.
- Update the details in the right panel, then click Save.
- Changes made to the seller company details only apply to the contract and the invoices associated with the contract. Your account settings aren't updated.
- To edit the billing company details, hover over the company and click the edit edit icon. Edits will also update the company CRM record.
- To replace the billing company, hover over the company and click the replace replace icon.
- To delete the billing company, hover over the company and click the delete delete icon.
- To use the same billing address as the company record, under Billing address, select the Same as billing company checkbox.
- To use a different billing address, click + Add billing address. In the right panel:
- Enter the billing address and click Save.
- Changes made to the billing address details only update the contract and is used on invoices associated with the contract. The company record is not updated.
Please note: if automated sales tax is turned on, the billing address is used to determine if tax should be added to the contract.
- Click to expand the Tax IDs section to view any Tax IDs added to the billing company. Edit existing tax IDs by clicking the edit edit icon next to the billing company name, then, in the right panel, click the Tax IDs tab. Add seller tax IDs through the invoices tool.
- To add a billing contact, next to Billing contact, click Add. In the right panel:
- Search for and select a contact, then click Save.
- Click the Create new tab in the right panel to create a new contact record.
- To edit the billing contact details, hover over the contact and click the edit edit icon. Edits will also update the contact CRM record.
- To replace the billing contact, hover over the contact and click the replace replace icon.
- To delete the billing contact, hover over the contact and click the delete delete icon.
- To add additional billing contacts, click + Add additional contacts. Search for contacts and select the checkboxes next to the contacts, then click Save.
Edit contract details
Edit contract details in the Contract setup section.
- Click to expand the Contract setup section.
- To change the contract owner, click the Contract owner dropdown menu and select an owner.
- To change the payment terms, click the Payment terms dropdown menu and select a payment term. Learn more about payment terms.
- To change the PO number of the contract, in the PO number field, enter the PO number.
- To add a custom property, click + Add custom property. Select existing custom contract properties from the list, search for a custom property, or click Create new contract property to set up a new custom contract property.
- Click the delete delete icon next to a custom property to delete it from the contract.
- To associate the contract with a deal, click the Associate with a deal dropdown menu and select a deal, or click Create a new deal to create a new deal.
Edit line items
Permissions required Super Admin or Create custom line items permissions are required to create custom line items.
Edit the line items of the contract in the Line items section.
- In the Change effective date section, click the date picker and select the date the change will take effect.
- If the Allow users to override the default proration setting is turned on, clear the Prorate charges and credits for the remaining billing period to not prorate charges. If the checkbox is selected, charges will be prorated.
- To remove a line item, hover over the line item, click Actions, then select Cancel line item. The line item will be labeled as Canceled.
- To update a line item, update the properties of the line item in the line item columns (e.g., Unit price, Quantity, Unit discount). Click Edit columns in the upper right to edit which columns are displayed. The line item will be labeled as Changed.
- To undo changes, hover over the line item name, click Actions, then select Undo changes.

- To add a line item, in the upper right, click Add line item, then select an option:
- Select from product library: add a line item based on a product in your product library, including line items created using the HubSpot-Shopify integration.
- After selecting this option, search by product name, product description, or SKU, or click Advanced filters to refine your search. Select the checkboxes in the right panel next to the products you want to base your line item on.
- If selecting tiered pricing line items, click View tiers to view the different tiers for the product before adding the line item.
- Create custom line item: if you have Create custom line items permissions, a new custom line item will be created that's unique to the individual quote. After selecting this option, enter your line item details in the right panel, and choose whether to save the custom line item to your product library. Click Save or Save and add another.
- Select from product library: add a line item based on a product in your product library, including line items created using the HubSpot-Shopify integration.
- If automated sales tax is turned on, select tax categories for any added line items.
- The line item will be labeled as Added.
- Review updates in the Changes panel on the right.

- If the Prorate charges and credits for the remaining billing period option was selected, the Prorated adjustment is displayed in the Summary.

- To turn off automated sales tax, toggle the Automated sales tax switch off.
Edit billing and payments
Please note: you can set whether to collect payments on invoices automatically or manually if you're enrolled in the Direct Create, Edit, and Renew HubSpot Contracts beta or you're enrolled in the Connected CPQ, Billing, and Payments beta and the Automatically create contracts from accepted quotes setting is turned on.
When editing billing and payments for finalized contracts:
-
If billing was turned on when the contract was created, it can't be turned off when editing.
- If billing was turned off when the contract was created, it can't be turned on when editing.
Edit billing and payment option in the Billing and payments section:
- To update the collection process, click Automatic payments or Manual payments. If you select Automatic payments, online payments will be on by default.
- If Automatic payments is selected, to change the payment method used for charging, click the Charge method dropdown menu and select a charge method. Select Collect payment method on the next paid invoice to collect a new payment method from the buyer when they pay the next invoice.
- Under Online payments, toggle the Accept online payments switch on to allow buyers to pay for invoices online.
- The pre-filled choices on this screen reflect what's set up in payment settings. Select or clear the Accepted forms of payment checkboxes to choose the payment types to accept.
- If you have set up fees, under Fees applied at checkout, select the checkboxes next to the fees you want to apply to the contract payment.
- Select the Collecting billing address for credit card purchases checkbox to collect the billing address of your buyers.
- Select the Collect shipping address checkbox to collect the shipping address of your buyers.
- To accept payments through an alternative method, toggle the Accept online payments switch off. If you selected Automatic payments, online payments will be on by default.
Save edits
- To save contract edits, click Save changes in the top right.
- Click Save changes in the dialog box to confirm the changes.
Create change quotes for a contract
Subscription required A Revenue Hub subscription is required to create change quotes.
Subscription required A Revenue Hub seat is required to create change quotes.

Directly renew a contract (BETA)
If you're a Super Admin, you can opt your account into the Direct Create, Edit, and Renew HubSpot Contracts beta.
Directly renew a contract as a customer nears the end of their current contract. Existing seller and buyer parties, contract details, line items, and billing and payment information are carried over from the original contract, so you don't have to re-enter the details manually. Contract associations
When renewing contracts, the renewal contract is associated with the existing contract. Renewals are also recorded on the original contract overview, activities, and history tabs. You can use association labels to further define the relationship between the contract and renewal to help segment records, build reports, and create workflows. Learn more about using association labels. 
Create renewals
- In your HubSpot account, click More, then navigate to Revenue > Contracts. If More doesn't appear in your account, navigate to Revenue > Contracts directly.
- Click the name of a contract.
- In the upper left, click Actions, then select Renew contract.
- In the dialog box, click Continue renewing directly.
Edit the contract buyer and seller details
Edit the contract buyer and seller details in the Parties section.
- To update the seller company details, under Seller:
- Hover over the seller and click the edit edit icon.
- Update the details in the right panel, then click Save.
- Changes made to the seller company details only apply to the contract and the invoices associated with the contract. Your account settings aren't updated.
- To edit the billing company details, hover over the company and click the edit edit icon. Edits will also update the company CRM record.
- To replace the billing company, hover over the company and click the replace replace icon.
- To delete the billing company, hover over the company and click the delete delete icon.
- To use the same billing address as the company record, under Billing address, select the Same as billing company checkbox.
- To use a different billing address, click + Add billing address. In the right panel:
- Enter the billing address and click Save.
- Changes made to the billing address details only update the contract and is used on invoices associated with the contract. The company record is not updated.
Please note: if automated sales tax is turned on, the billing address is used to determine if tax should be added to the contract.
- Click to expand the Tax IDs section to view any Tax IDs added to the billing company. Edit existing tax IDs by clicking the edit edit icon next to the billing company name, then, in the right panel, click the Tax IDs tab. Add seller tax IDs through the invoices tool.
- To add a billing contact, next to Billing contact, click Add. In the right panel:
- Search for and select a contact, then click Save.
- Click the Create new tab in the right panel to create a new contact record.
- To edit the billing contact details, hover over the contact and click the edit edit icon. Edits will also update the contact CRM record.
- To replace the billing contact, hover over the contact and click the replace replace icon.
- To delete the billing contact, hover over the contact and click the delete delete icon.
- To add additional billing contacts, click + Add additional contacts. Search for contacts and select the checkboxes next to the contacts, then click Save.
Edit contract details
Edit contract details in the Contract setup section.
- To change the effective date of the contract, in the Contract effective date section, click the Date picker and select a date.
- To change the contract owner, click the Contract owner dropdown menu and select an owner.
- To change the payment terms, click the Payment terms dropdown menu and select a payment term. Learn more about payment terms.
- To add a PO number, in the PO number field, enter the PO number.
- To add a custom property, click + Add custom property. Select existing custom contract properties from the list, search for a custom property, or click Create new contract property to set up a new custom contract property.
- Click the delete delete icon next to a custom property to delete it from the contract.
- To associate the contract with a deal, click the Associate with a deal dropdown menu and select a deal, or click Create a new deal to create a new deal.
Add and edit line items
Permissions required Super Admin or Create custom line items permissions are required to create custom line items.
Add line items to the contract from your product library or add custom line items.
Please note: when using Stripe as a payment processing option, the total amount due must be more than $0.50, or the equivalent minimum of the settlement currency. Learn more about Stripe's minimum charge amounts.
To add line items:
- In the upper right, of the line items section click Add line item, then select an option:
- Select from product library: add a line item based on a product in your product library, including line items created using the HubSpot-Shopify integration.
- Search by product name, product description, or SKU, or click Advanced filters to refine your search.
- Select the checkboxes in the right panel next to the products you want to base your line item on. If selecting tiered pricing line items, click View tiers to view the different tiers for the product, before adding the line item.

- Create custom line item: create a custom line item that's unique to the contract. After selecting this option, use the right panel to enter your line item details. Select the Save line item to the product library checkbox to save the line item to your product library. Click Save or Save and add another.
- Select from product library: add a line item based on a product in your product library, including line items created using the HubSpot-Shopify integration.
- Click Preview contract to preview the contract details and billing schedule.
- Taxes can be added to individual line items, or you can use automated sales tax when using online payments. To add taxes to individual line items, click the Tax Rate dropdown menu and set tax rates on line items. The Tax amount column updates automatically.
- If you're using automated sales tax, toggle the Automated sales tax switch on. Automated sales tax will be calculated when the renewal contract is created.
- In the Tax category column, click the dropdown menu and select the tax category for each line item. You can choose different tax categories for different line items. Each line item must have a unique name.
- If you're shipping an item as part of the contract, you must add a line item for shipping for automated tax to calculate correctly. If you haven't added shipping to your product library, add a custom line item with a Tax category of Shipping.
- You can edit the columns displayed in the line item table. If you're a Super Admin, you can set which columns to display to all users by default. Learn how to edit columns.
- Edit the line items in the editor by adjusting the values of each column.

- When editing tiered pricing line items, the price updates based on the tier as you adjust the quantity. Click View tiers to edit the quantities alongside the tier table to understand which pricing tier applies.

- By default, billing for one-time and recurring line items is set to today's date. To charge your buyer for a line item later, click the Billing start date dropdown menu, then select Custom Date. In the right panel, click the date picker and select a start date, then click Save.
- To add a discount to a line item, in the Unit Discount column, click the dropdown menu and select percentage or currency. Enter the discount amount. Discounts can be set on individual line items, not on the entire contract.
- To edit the line item's details, or to clone or delete a line item, hover over the line item, click Actions, then select an option:
- Edit: edit the line item for the contract. The product library won't be affected.
- Delete: delete the line item.

To reorder the line items, click and drag a line item using the dragHandle drag handle.

The Summary section shows how your buyer will be charged:
- The Subtotal will show only the items due at checkout. Any items that'll be charged at a later date will appear in the Future payments total.
- All items, regardless of payment due date, will be totaled next to Total.
- Toggle the Automated sales tax switch off to turn automated sales tax off.
Please note:
- While the ability to add a tax, fee, or discount lives in HubSpot, your legal and accounting teams are the best resource to give you compliance advice for your specific situation.
- Up to six decimal places are supported when setting a line item's unit price in any currency and discounts are rounded based on the currency's precision at checkout. For example, if a line item is $11.90 USD and a 15% discount is applied, the $1.785 discount is rounded to $1.79. The buyer pays a total of $10.11.
Edit billing and payments
Please note: you can set whether to collect payments on invoices automatically or manually if you're enrolled in the Direct Create, Edit, and Renew HubSpot Contracts beta or if you're enrolled in the Connected CPQ, Billing, and Payments beta and the Automatically create contracts from accepted quotes setting is turned on.
Set up how to bill and collect payments from buyers. Online payments are only available when billing is turned on.
To set up billing, under Billing and payments:
- Toggle the Billing switch on to automatically create invoices and bill buyers for recurring line items. Learn more about billing settings.
- To set how to collect payments, under Collection process:
- Select Automatic payments to automatically charge invoices on each billing date. Click the Charge method dropdown menu and select an option:
- Collect payment method on the first paid invoice: charge each invoice using the payment method entered to pay for the first invoice.
- Use a stored payment method: charge an existing stored payment method.
- Select Manual payments if you want the buyer to manually pay the invoice on each billing date. The buyer will be sent the invoice on each billing date to arrange payment.
- Select Automatic payments to automatically charge invoices on each billing date. Click the Charge method dropdown menu and select an option:
- Toggle the Billing switch off if you want to bill and collect payments through an alternative method.

To set up online payments, under Accept online payments:
- If Automatic payments is selected in the Billing section, online payments will be on by default. If Manual payments is selected, toggle the Accept online payments switch on to allow buyers to pay for invoices online.
- The pre-filled choices on this screen reflect what's set up in payment settings. Select or clear the Accepted forms of payment checkboxes to choose the payment types to accept.
- If you have set up fees, under Fees applied at checkout, select the checkboxes next to the fees you want to apply to the contract payment.
- Select the Collecting billing address for credit card purchases checkbox to collect the billing address of your buyers.
- Select the Collect shipping address checkbox to collect the shipping address of your buyers.
- To accept payments through an alternative method, toggle the Accept online payments switch off.
Set the contract language, locale and currency
- Click Settings in the upper right of the contract editor.
- Click the Language dropdown menu and select a language.
- Click the Locale dropdown menu and select a locale. Locale will change the date and address display format for your contract. Changing the contract's locale settings won't update the currency.
- If you have multiple currencies set up in your account, click the Currency dropdown menu and select a currency.
Finalize the renewal
- To finalize the contract and send the first invoice, in the top right, click Finalize renewal.
- Click Finalize in the dialog box to confirm.
Invoice delivery and payment
How you configured line items and billing and payments determines what happens next. Review the table below to understand the process based on your contract settings.

Create renewal quotes

Create renewal quotes as a customer nears the end of their current contract to provide a quote-based process for proposing and approving renewals. Learn more about creating renewal quotes.
Update the payment method of a contract
Send the contact of the contract a link to update their payment method.
- In your HubSpot account, click More, then navigate to Revenue > Contracts. If More doesn't appear in your account, navigate to Revenue > Contracts directly.
- Click the name of the contract.
- In the upper left, click Actions, then select Update payment method.
- In the dialog box, click Send link.
- The buyer will be sent a link which they can click to update their payment method.
Terminate a contract
Contracts can be terminated immediately or on a scheduled date. To terminate a contract:
- In your HubSpot account, click More, then navigate to Revenue > Contracts. If More doesn't appear in your account, navigate to Revenue > Contracts directly.
- Click the name of the contract.
- In the upper right of the left sidebar, click Actions, then select Terminate.

- In the dialog box, click the date picker and select a termination date. Select today’s date to terminate immediately, or a future date to schedule a termination.
- Click Terminate contract if terminating immediately, or Schedule termination if you’ve selected a future date.
- The contract record will be updated with the termination information.

Change or cancel the termination of a contract
If you have scheduled a termination of a contract, you can change or cancel the termination.
- In your HubSpot account, click More, then navigate to Revenue > Contracts. If More doesn't appear in your account, navigate to Revenue > Contracts directly.
- Hover over a contract and click Preview.
- In the upper right of the left sidebar, click Actions and select an option:
- Change termination date: change the contract termination date. In the dialog box, click the date picker and select a new termination date. Click Update date.
- Cancel termination: cancel the contract termination. In the dialog box, click Cancel termination to confirm.
Edit the invoices associated with a contract
You can edit invoices that are manually associated with a contract, as long as they weren't created from a subscription. Invoices that are automatically associated with a contract after a quote is accepted can't be edited. When updating an invoice, keep in mind the following:
- Updated invoices will be recorded in the Activities tab but not the History tab.
- If you update the invoice amount, it is added to the Total billed amount of the contract. The Total contract value is not updated.
To modify an active contract agreement, edit the contract or to use a quote-based process for proposing and approving changes, create a change quote.
To edit an invoice:
- In your HubSpot account, click More, then navigate to Revenue > Contracts. If More doesn't appear in your account, navigate to Revenue > Contracts directly.
- Click the name of the contract.
- In the right sidebar, hover over the invoice and click the ellipses three horizontal dots icon.
- Click Edit.
- Update the invoice. In the top right, click Update invoice.
- The update will be recorded in the Activities tab but not the History tab. The invoice amount is added to the Total billed amount of the contract. The Total contract value is not updated.
Associate records with contracts
Permissions required Super Admins or users with Edit associations permissions can manage associations between records.
Add associations to contracts from the contract index page. You can associate contracts with contacts, companies, deals, tickets, quotes, invoices, other contracts, orders, and projects.
Please note: if you manually associate an invoice:
- The invoice amount is added to the Total billed amount of the contract.
- The Total contract value is not updated.
- The association is not recorded in the History or Activities tabs.
- In your HubSpot account, click More, then navigate to Revenue > Contracts. If More doesn't appear in your account, navigate to Revenue > Contracts directly.
- Hover over a contract and click the Preview icon.
- In the right sidebar, click + Add on an association card (e.g., Contacts).
- In the right panel:
- Search for and select the checkboxes next to the records you want to associate. Click Save to associate them to the contract.
- Click the Create new tab to create a new record to associate to the contract. Enter the details of the new record and click Create to associate it to the contract, or Create and add another to create another record.
Export contracts
Permissions required Super Admin or Export permissions are required to export contracts.
- In your HubSpot account, click More, then navigate to Revenue > Contracts. If More doesn't appear in your account, navigate to Revenue > Contracts directly.
- Click Export in the top right of the table.
- In the dialog box:
- Enter an export name in the Export name text box.
- Click the File format dropdown menu, and select a format.
- Click the Language of column headers dropdown menu and select a language.
- Click Customize to customize the export further.
- Under Properties included in export select an option for which properties to include in the export.
- Under Associations included in export, select the Include associated record name checkbox to include associated record names (e.g., the invoice name).
- Under Associations included in export, select whether to include up to 1,000 associated records, or all associated records.
- Click Export.

Delete contracts
Delete contracts from the contracts index page. Please note the following when deleting contracts:

Contracts with billing can't be deleted.

Deleted contracts can't be restored.
- If you directly created a contract with billing turned on, or if you're enrolled in the Connected CPQ, Billing, and Payments beta and turned on billing when creating a quote:
- Subscriptions managed by contract are deleted.
- Orders created by the contract are deleted.
- Subscriptions and orders created and manually associated to the contract are not deleted.
- In your HubSpot account, click More, then navigate to Revenue > Contracts. If More doesn't appear in your account, navigate to Revenue > Contracts directly.
- Select the checkbox next to each contract you want to delete.
- At the top of the table, click deletDelete.
- In the dialog box, enter the number of records and click Delete.
