Automatically create and associate companies with contacts

You can choose to let HubSpot associate contacts with companies by matching the domain in a contact's Email address value to the company record's Company Domain Name value. For example, the contact with the email address "sandra@test.com" will be associated to the company with the Company Domain Name "test.com".

With the setting switched on, HubSpot will automatically create a company record and populate it with information from HubSpot's database if the company record doesn't already exist.

If the contact has a freemail email account (gmail.com, yahoo.com, etc.), HubSpot will also look at the contact's Website URL property to attempt to match the contact with a company's domain name.

You can also exclude a specific domain from this feature.

Please note: turning this setting on will associate any current contacts with companies as well as any newly added contacts. This will not update or sync company property values to contact properties (i.e. Company Name).

Enable automatic association between contacts and companies

  • In your HubSpot account, click the settings icon settings in the main navigation bar.
  • In the left sidebar menu, navigate to Contacts & companies
  • Click the Companies tab.
  • Click to toggle the Automatically create and associate companies with contacts switch on.
  • To allow HubSpot create new company records and associations based on your existing contacts' email addresses, click Yes.

  • HubSpot will begin creating company records and associating existing contacts based on their email addresses retroactively. Going forwards, HubSpot will automatically associate new contacts based on their email address to companies.

Exclude specific domains from automatic association

  • In your HubSpot account, click the settings icon settings in the main navigation bar.
  • In the left sidebar menu, navigate to Contacts & companies
  • Click the Companies tab.
  • In the Automatically create and associate companies with contacts section, click Opt a domain out of automatic association.

  • In the dialog box, Opted out domains field, type the domain(s) to exclude them from automatic association, then click Save.
