Customize the record preview sidebar in the customer success workspace

When you select a record in the customer success workspace, a preview sidebar appears with information for that record. If you're an admin, you can customize the contents of this preview sidebar, ensuring that the right information is available to your users in an efficient layout.

Edit preview sidebar views

You can adjust the preview sidebar for the default view and for custom team views.

  1. In your HubSpot account, click the settings settings icon in the top navigation bar. Then, under Tools, click Customer Success.
  2. At the top, click Sidebar customization.
  3. Click the Select an object dropdown menu and select the object whose preview sidebar you'd like to customize.
  4. To customize the account-wide default view, in the table, click Default view. The default view is displayed to all users who aren't on an assigned team.
  5. To create or edit a team view, click Create team view, or click the name of the team whose view you'd like to edit.
    • At the top of the editor, enter a name for the view.
    • To select the teams who will have access to the view, in the top right, click Assign teams. In the dialog box, select the checkboxes of the teams, then click Done.
  6. In the view editor, customize the tabs and cards you'd like to include in the view.
  7. Adjust the user customization settings for the view to choose whether users can reorder cards for themselves (user changes to the order of cards only affect that specific user).
  8. When you've finished customizing the view, in the top right, click Save and exit.

Customize tabs and cards

The content of the preview sidebar can be organized into separate tabs, and each tab can contain multiple cards. You have the option to hide or show tabs and cards based off of conditional logic filters.

Add tabs and cards

To add tabs to your view:

  1. At the top of the view editor, click the add add icon.
  2. In the dialog box, enter a name for the tab.
  3. Click Done.

To add cards:

  1. At the top of the view editor, select the tab where you'd like the card to appear.
  2. Hover between existing cards, then click the Add card button.

  1. To add an existing card to the tab:
    • In the right panel, click the Card library tab
    • On the specific card you'd like to add, select Add card.
  2. To create a new card for the tab:
    • In the right panel, click the Create card tab.
    • Click Create card on the type of card you're creating.
    • At the top, enter a Card title.
    • Depending on the card type, fill in the additional card details. Learn about the card details for different types of cards.
    • When you're done customizing the card, click Save.
  3. Click the X in the top right corner to return to the view editor.

Edit tabs and cards

To edit the label for a tab:

  1. At the top of the view editor, select the tab you'd like to edit.
  2. Click the tab label, then click Edit tab label.
  3. In the dialog box, enter a new label. Then, click Done.

To edit custom cards:

  1. Click the edit edit icon on the card you'd like to edit.
  2. In the right sidebar, at the top, edit the Card title.
  3. In the right sidebar, edit the card details as needed. Learn about the card details for different types of cards.
  4. At the bottom of the sidebar, click Save.

Hide or show elements with conditional logic

You can choose to display or hide content based on criteria related to the record being previewed. For example, on a contact preview you can choose to hide the Activities tab if the contact's Last activity date property value is unknown.

To set conditional logic for a tab or card:

  1. Select the tab or card:
    • If you're editing a tab, at the top of the view editor, click the name of the tab.
    • If you're editing a card, click the ellipses three horizontal dots icon to the right of the card.
  2. Click Set conditional logic.
  3. In the pop-up window, select a property and then select the filter criteria.
  4. Click the Then dropdown menu to choose the display option for when the selected criteria is met (i.e., if the filter criteria is met, should the element be hidden or shown).
  5. In the pop-up window, click Apply.

To edit or remove conditional logic for a tab or card:

  1. Select the tab or card:
    • If you're editing a tab, at the top of the view editor, click the name of the tab.
    • If you're editing a card, click the ellipses three horizontal dots icon to the right of the card.
  2. Click Edit conditional logic.
  3. In the pop-up window, edit the propertyfilter criteria, and display option.
  4. To remove the conditional logic for the element, click the delete delete icon at the top of the filter criteria.
  5. When you've finished editing, at the bottom of the pop-up window, click Apply.

Change the order of tabs and cards

To change the order of tabs:

  1. At the top of the view editor, click Change tab order.
  2. On the right sidebar, drag and drop the tabs into the preferred order.
  3. At the bottom of the sidebar, click Save.

To change the order of cards, drag and drop the card to its new position:

Delete tabs and cards

To delete a tab:

  1. At the top of the view editor, select the tab you'd like to delete.
  2. Click the tab label, then click Delete tab.
  3. In the dialog box, click Delete tab.

To delete a card:

  1. In the view editor, click the ellipses three horizontal dots icon to the right of the card.
  2. Click Remove card.

Adjust user customization settings

By default, users who have access to a view can reorder cards for themselves when they preview a record in the customer success workspace. Changing the card order in this way only affects that specific user. When you create or edit a view, you can specify the tabs where users are allowed to reorder cards for themselves.

  1. In the view editor, at the top, click Settings.
  2. For each tab in the view:
    • To allow users to reorder cards with that tab, turn the tab switch on.
    • To prevent users from reordering cards within that tab, turn the tab switch off.

For example, you can prevent users from reordering cards on the Overview tab, but allow them to reorder the cards on the Activities tab:
