Set Slack event triggers with Agent Hub workflows

When creating a workflow in Agent Hub, you can choose to trigger the workflow from Slack. Use this trigger type to automate processes from directly within Slack. For example, you can trigger a workflow whenever a Slack user is mentioned or when a message is sent to a specific Slack channel. 

Before you get started

  • To use Slack triggers in your Agent Hub workflow, you must install the Slack integration. Learn how to connect HubSpot and Slack
  • When configuring your your trigger, the HubSpot app must be manually added to any Slack Connect and private channels that you'd like to use. If not, these channels will not appear as options when setting up your Slack workflow triggers.

Trigger a workflow using Slack

  1. In your HubSpot account, click More, then navigate to Agents > Agent Hub. If More doesn't appear in your account, navigate to Agents > Agent Hub directly.
  2. At the top, click the Workflows tab.
  3. Click the name of an existing workflow built in the Agent Hub workflow builder. Or, create a new workflow in Agent Hub.
  4. In the workflow builder, click Choose trigger
  5. In the left panel, under App triggers, click Slack
  6. Select from the following:
    • Slack user mentioned: triggers when a specific Slack user has been mentioned. You can filter by message text, channel ID, or sender user ID.
    • Slack message sent by user: triggers when a message is sent by a specific Slack user. This can be further filtered by message content.
    • Slack member joined channel: triggers when a new user joins a channel. You can filter by channel, user, or the user that invited the new user.
    • Slack thread reply: triggers when a thread is replied to in a specific channel. You can filter by message text or sender user ID.
    • Slack message posted: triggers when a slack message is posted to a specific channel. You can filter by message text or sender user ID. 
  1. After setting up your triggers, continue creating the workflow



Example use cases

  • Trigger an in-app notification: send an in-app notifiation whenever a specific phrase is mentioned. For example, you may want to notify the support team whenever the phrase reach out to support is mentioned,
  • Trigger actions in other applications: use events in Slack to trigger workflow actions for other third-party applications. For example, you can create a new task in Asana based on a Slack thread.
