Manage lifecycle stages sync settings

In HubSpot, you can automatically sync the lifecycle stage of companies to associated contacts. You can also automatically update the lifecycle stages of associated contacts and companies when a deal is created or closed as won. Follow the instructions below to manage these two settings. 

Companies

With the companies lifecycle stage sync setting enabled, any changes to the Lifecycle Stage value on a company record will be applied to all associated contact records. To manage the lifecycle stage sync setting for companies:

  • In your HubSpot account, click the settings icon settings in the main navigation bar.
  • In the left sidebar menu, navigate to Contacts & Companies
  • Click the Companies tab.
  • Click to toggle the Lifecycle stage sync switch on or off. 

This setting will not set the lifecycle stage of contacts backwardsFor example, if there are two contacts associated with a company, one with a lifecycle stage of Marketing Qualified Lead and one with a lifecycle stage of Opportunity, and the company's lifecycle stage is set to Lead, the associated contacts' lifecycle stages will not be changed. However, if the company's lifecycle stage is set to Customer, the lifecycle stage of the two contacts will be changed to Customer as well.

Please note: if you're using the Salesforce integration and turn the Lifecycle stage sync setting on, any changes made to a contact's lifecycle stage by the Automatic lifecycle stage transitions setting will be applied to all contacts associated with the same company in HubSpot. Salesforce contacts must still be associated with opportunities via contact roles, as accounts associated with opportunities will not be recognized by HubSpot.

Deals

With the deals lifecycle stage sync setting enabled, the lifecycle stages of associated contacts and companies will change when a deal is created or closed as won. When a deal is created, the lifecycle stage of associated contacts and companies will change to Opportunity. When a deal is won, the lifecycle stage of associated contacts and companies will change to Customer. To manage the lifecycle stage sync setting for deals:

  • In your HubSpot account, click the settings icon settings in the main navigation bar.
  • In the left sidebar menu, navigate to SalesDeals.
  • Click the toggle the Sync lifecycle stages to associated contacts and companies switch on or off.

This setting will not set the lifecycle stage of contacts backwardsFor example, a contact is associated with a deal and has a lifecycle stage of Customer. If a deal is created and associated with that contact, the lifecycle stage of the contact will not change to Opportunity. However, if the contact's lifecycle stage is set to Lead, and a deal is created and associated with it, the lifecycle stage of the contact will become Opportunity.
