How do I use snippets?

Snippets are short, reusable text blocks that can be used on contact, company, and deal records; in email templates; and in messages. With snippets, salespeople can leave notes about prospects in the CRM, quickly pull in important details when writing an email to a prospect, or use canned responses when responding to live chats.

Create a snippet

  • In your HubSpot Sales account, navigate to Sales Tools Snippets.
  • In the upper right corner, click New snippet.
  • In the dialog box that appears, enter a Name for the snippet.
  • Enter the body of your snippet in the Text Snippet section. Use the formatting options at the bottom of the editing window to modify the text. To include personalization tokens in your snippet, click the Contact token or Company token in the bottom right corner and select a property.
  • Enter a name for the snippet shortcut in the Shortcut section. This shortcut will be used to call the snippet in an email template or contact/company/deal record.
  • When you've finished setting up your snippet, click Save snippet

Please note: creating a snippet with curly brackets instead of personalization tokens causes issues with HubSpot's template rendering service. Before saving your snippet, remove any curly brackets.

To use a snippet in a contact, company or deal record

  • In your HubSpot Sales account, navigate to Contacts, Companies, or Deals.
  • Click the name of your contact, company, or deal record.
  • Click any of the tabs at the top of the record timeline (New note, Email, Call, etc.) and type the # symbol into the text editor.
  • Start typing the snippet shortcut, then select the snippet by clicking it or hitting the Tab or Enter key. The snippet will automatically populate in the text editor.

To use a snippet in an email template

  • In your HubSpot Sales account, navigate to Sales Tools > Templates.
  • In the upper right corner, click New template, or click an existing template in the dashboard.
  • Click into the template email body and type the # symbol.
  • Start typing the snippet shortcut, then select the snippet by clicking it or hitting the Tab or Enter key. The snippet will automatically populate in the text editor.

Please note: snippets can only be used when sending emails and using templates in the CRM, and are not currently supported in HubSpot Sales in Gmail or Outlook. 

To use a snippet in a message chat (Sales Starter or Professional only)

  • In your HubSpot Sales Starter or Profesional account, navigate to Sales Tools > Messages.

  • Click Launch Chat in the upper right.
  • In the open chat, click into the Write a message text box to respond to the message and type the # symbol.
  • Start typing the snippet shortcut, then select the snippet by clicking it or hitting the Tab or Enter key. The snippet will automatically populate in the text editor.
