How many columns can I include when importing a CSV file?

Last updated: January 29, 2018

There is a limit of 1,000 columns per CSV import. If you are seeing the error message below, please check to make sure that the number of columns in your import file is less than 1,000.

Sometimes, your CSV file will appear to have fewer columns than it actually does. For example, if we take a look at the CSV file below in Excel, it looks like there are four columns: First Name, Last Name, Email, and City.

When that same CSV file is opened in a Text Editor, you can see that there are a number of existing empty columns (noted by the commas), which HubSpot is trying to import.

To remove these extra blank columns:

  • Open the CSV in a text editor (Sublime Text, Notepad, etc...)
  • Delete the extra commas (after "City" in this example) and save the edited CSV file.
  • Next, import the recently saved file into HubSpot again.
