Migrate a knowledge base

Last updated: October 24, 2025

Available with any of the following subscriptions, except where noted:

Migrate your existing HubSpot knowledge base to use the new knowledge base editor. This will give you access to more features, including more styling options, custom header and footer HTML, and additional supported languages.

Please note: all knowledge bases not migrated by early November 2025 will be automatically switched over to the new tools at that time.

Before you get started

When migrating your knowledge base, please note the following:

  • To migrate a knowledge base, you must be a super admin.
  • Until you publish your new knowledge base, you won't see an active feedback survey on your new knowledge base. Once you publish the new knowledge base, the feedback form will be live.
  • The new tools have a limit of 100 tags for each article. You should remove additional tags from any articles with more than 100 tags before migration.
  • It is recommended to upload all images used across your knowledge base to the HubSpot files tool. Images uploaded directly in the article editor will be in the files tool and included in the migration. If you used images that weren't uploaded in the article editor through the files tool, they may not be migrated. Learn more about using images in HubSpot content.
  • All articles, regardless of their current status (e.g., published, unpublished, draft), will be migrated. If there are any updates to an article that haven't been published, they should be published before the migration takes place.

Migrate a knowledge base

  1. In your HubSpot account, navigate to Service > Knowledge Base.

  2. If you have multiple knowledge bases, click the Knowledge base dropdown menu and select a knowledge base. An Update available tag will appear next to any knowledge bases that need to be migrated.

The knowledge base page is displayed. An arrow is pointing to the knowledge base dropdown menu on the top left of the page, showing multiple knowledge base options with 'Update available' next to a knowledge base eligible to migrate.

  1. In the top banner, click Migrate now.

On the knowledge base page, a banner message is displayed showing that the knowledge base needs to be migrated to the latest tools. A box is placed around the Migrate now hyperlinked text.

  1. In the dialog box, review the differences between the new and existing knowledge base types, then click Update now.
  2. Once the migration starts, the following will occur:
    • A copy of the knowledge base will be created using the new platform.
    • Each article will be moved to a temporary URL, with /migration/ at the end of the original link. These links will be live but not accessible to visitors from your knowledge base.
    • The original version of the knowledge base will become read-only but will stay live until 30 days after the new version is published.
  3. Once the migration has completed, review the new knowledge base (e.g., theme styles) and make any necessary changes using the new tools.

Publish a migrated knowledge base

To use your knowledge base after migrating, you'll need to publish it. Once your knowledge base is published:

  • You can no longer publish articles to your original knowledge base.
  • You'll retain access to the original knowledge base for 30 days, after which it'll be permanently deleted.
  • For each migrated article that is published, its original article will stay published for 30 days. The original article's URL slug will be changed to /migrated. You can also archive and unpublish the original article.
  • All migrated articles will be published on their original URLs.

To publish your new knowledge base:

  1. In your HubSpot account, navigate to Service > Knowledge Base.
  2. If you have multiple knowledge bases, click the Knowledge base dropdown menu and select the new knowledge base.
  3. At the top of the page, click Publish in the banner.
  4. In the dialog box, review the effects of publishing your updated knowledge base, then click Publish.

On the knowledge base page, a banner message is displayed showing that the user will keep access for 30 days after the new knowledge base has been published. An arrow points to a Publish button in the banner message.
