Available with any of the following subscriptions, except where noted:

After you've published and sent a marketing email, you can view individual events such as opens, clicks, and bounces for each recipient. This can help you understand how contacts are interacting with your emails and troubleshoot deliverability issues.

This article covers marketing email performance for specific recipients. Learn more about analyzing a marketing email's general performance

Understand limitations and considerations

  • Contacts who record a BouncedUnsubscribed, or Spam report event for this email will not be sent future marketing emails.
  • Contacts who can't be sent an email due to not having an email address in HubSpot won't appear in the Not Sent section.
  • Engagement data won't include events filtered out by bot filtering

View marketing email recipients

  1. In your HubSpot account, navigate to Marketing > Email.
  2. Click the name of a sent email.
  3. On the performance page, click the Recipients tab.
  4. To see all contacts who registered an email event, such as OpenedClicked, or Replied, click the event in the left column. Contacts can appear in multiple event sections.
  5. To see all email events for a specific contact, click Expand next to that contact's name.

Understand marketing email events

For each marketing email, the following types of email event will be reported:

  • Sent: contacts included in the Send to dropdown menu. This category excludes contacts specified in the Don't send to dropdown menu or who are placed in the Not sent category for other reasons.
  • Delivered: contacts whose email server sent a response that the email was delivered.
  • Opened: contacts who opened the email. Email opens are measured when the images in the email load, or if links are clicked without images loading.
  • Clicked: contacts who clicked a link in the email. This does not include subscription management links
  • Replied: contacts who sent a reply to the email. Learn more about the requirements for tracking replies to marketing emails
  • Bounced: contacts who were sent the email, but it wasn't received by their email server. Bounced events will include a bounce type, bounce explanation and the response from the recipient's email server.
  • Unsubscribed: contacts who received the email and opted out of this or all email subscription types. Unsubscribe events include the date the email was sent, rather than the date the contact unsubscribed.
  • Spam reports: contacts who reported this email as spam to their email provider or added it to their junk folder. To report on spam reports from Gmail inboxes, use Google's Postmaster tools
  • Not sent: contacts who were selected in the Send to dropdown menu, but who weren't sent the email to protect your sender reputation. To filter these contacts by the reason they weren't sent the email, click the Filter by dropdown menu and select a reason
    • Previously unsubscribed: contacts who previously unsubscribed to all marketing emails or marketing emails of this subscription type.
    • Previously hard bounced: contacts who had marketing emails previously hard bounce
    • Previously marked as spam: contacts who previously reported marketing emails as spam.
    • Unengaged: contacts who didn't meet the engagement criteria of the email. Contacts will only appear in this section if the Don't send to unengaged contacts option was selected for this marketing email.
    • Reached frequency cap: contacts who have already been sent the limit of marketing emails according to your email frequency safeguard. If
    • Other: contacts who weren't sent the email for other reasons, such as being a non-marketing contact or not being opted into the email's subscription type
