Within HubSpot, you can view a record's source to understand how a record was created or view a record's property history to see how its property values have been updated over time. The source values below show which tool or process updated the record. For example, the record was created by an import or a record's property value was changed via a workflow.

Please note: some sources below don't apply to the Record source property as certain tools cannot create records.

A record can be updated through the following sources:

  • Activities: a logged activity.
  • Ads: a manual update in the ads tool or through an ads background process.
  • Analytics: web analytics, visits, traffic information, or by an interaction with the HubSpot tracking code.
  • Approvals: the approvals system in response to user action or as part of internal backfill or cleanup.
  • BCC'd Email: an email with the HubSpot BCC address.
  • Batch Update: a batch API endpoint, or an internal batch migration.
  • Bot Chatflow: a chatbot.
  • CRM Setting: a HubSpot setting, for example the setting to automatically create and associate companies with contacts.
  • CRM UI: a manual action in HubSpot (e.g., manually create a contact).
  • CRM Bulk Action: a bulk action in HubSpot.
  • ChatSpot: an action in ChatSpot.
  • Commerce Hub: the payments tool.
  • Connected Inbox: an email sent through a personal or team connected inbox.
  • Content Membership: by registering to access private content.
  • Conversationsconversations in the inbox.
  • Custom Events: a custom event.
  • Documents App: the documents tool.
  • Ecommerce Integration: a connected ecommerce app.
  • Email Activity: by an interaction with an email.
  • Feedback: a feedback survey.
  • Forecasting: from the forecast tool.
  • Forms: a form submission.
  • Forwarded Email: an email with the HubSpot forwarding address.
  • Goals: reporting goals.
  • HubSpot AI: AI within HubSpot tools, such as data quality recommendations. 
  • HubSpot Calculation: by an update from a property, an associated HubSpot record, or a change to a setting, such as permissions.
  • HubSpot Company Insights: by HubSpot's Insights on companies.
  • HubSpot-owned Tool: a HubSpot tool, such as the Invoice Template Generator.
  • HubSpot Processing: by an internal HubSpot process, or a request made by a deprecated HubSpot API Key.
  • Import: an import.
  • Inbound and Outbound Callflow: an inbound or outbound call.
  • Integration: a connected app.
  • Marketplace: the marketplace.
  • Meetings: a meeting scheduling page.
  • Mobile Android: in the HubSpot Android mobile app.
  • Mobile iOS: in the HubSpot iOS mobile app.
  • Playbooks: the playbooks tool.
  • Quotes: a quote.
  • Restore Tool (Recycling Bin): the record was previously deleted, but was restored from the recycling bin.
  • Sales Extension: the HubSpot Sales extension.
  • Sales Processing: by internal sales activity processing.
  • Salesforce: the HubSpot-Salesforce integration.
  • Scoring: due to score property criteria.
  • Sequences: a sequence.
  • Social: a social channel.
  • Tasks: from the tasks tool.
  • Team Permissions Sync: due to internal syncing of permissions.
  • Workflow: a workflow.
