What is a HubSpot theme?

A theme is a group of assets that are used in conjunction with one another to create the look, the feel, and the functionality of your website. These assets are created with HubSpot's COS, and produce a graphical interface with an underlying unifying aesthetic for a website.

In addition to custom themes created by your designer, a HubSpot partner, or by HubSpot's technical services team, the COS now includes several default theme options. When you first set up your account or trial, you will be asked to select a starter theme. 

This article will go over the various assets included in a standard theme and give you a preview of the HubSpot's five standard themes.

HubSpot default themes are only available in new HubSpot accounts. If you would like to have a standard HubSpot theme installed in your existing account, follow these instructions to ensure that your account is compatible with these themes.

What assets are included in a theme

A theme is made up of base templates, custom templates, global groups, custom modules, stylesheets, and Javascript files.

Base templates

Standard themes includes 20 base templates for your site pages, landing pages, thank you pages, system pages, and blog. These templates can be customized to at the template level or in their flexible column sections in the page editor. You can learn more about these base templates here.

Custom templates

Themes generally include 2 custom templates for a Homepage and a Contact Us page template. These templates can be customized to at the template level or in their flexible column sections in the page editor. You can learn more about these custom templates here.

Global groups

HubSpot's standard themes include several global groups, such as global headers and footers, that are used across your templates to unify the structure of your pages. You can learn more about these global groups here.

Custom modules

HubSpot's standard themes include various Custom Modules that add some advanced site features to your site. You can learn more about HubTheme's Custom Modules here.

Stylesheets and Javascript files

In addition to the templates, global, and custom modules, themes relies on some core files for it's presentation and advanced functionality. These CSS and Javascript files are responsible for the presntation and functionality of your content. You can learn more about these core files here.

What are the different default HubSpot themes

There are 5 default themes that are available in new HubSpot accounts. Each theme shares a set of standard templates and custom modules, as well as a unique Homepage and Contact Us page template. Please note that while these themes are highly customizable, certain customizations may still require you to work with a web designer.
